Four-dimensional football, fullerenes and diagram geometry

چکیده
An n-fullerene is an n-dimensional cell complex where the stars of the points are (n − 1)-dimensional simplices and the 2-cells are pentagons or hexagons. We say that an n-fullerene is uniform if the number of hexagonal faces containing a given vertex p (and, when n¿ 3, contained in a given 3-face X on p) does not depend on the choice of p (and X ). For instance, the dodecahedron, the truncated icosahedron (also called the football) and the tesselation of the euclidean plane in regular hexagons are uniform fullerenes. In this paper, we exploit notions and results of diagram geometry to classify /nite uniform fullerenes. In particular, we prove that there is no four-dimensional analogue of the football. More precisely, we prove that there is just one simply connected 4-fullerene where the cells are truncated icosahedra, but it is obtained as a Grassmann geometry of a non-spherical (whence, in/nite) Coxeter complex. Being in/nite, that fullerene is not a polytope. c © 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Phase diagram of four-dimensional dynamical triangulations with a boundary
We report on simulations of DT simplicial gravity for manifolds with the topology of the 4-disk. We find evidence for four phases in a two-dimensional parameter space. In two of these the boundary plays no dynamical role and the geometries are equivalent to those observed earlier for the sphere S. In another phase the boundary is maximal and the quantum geometry degenerates to a one dimensional...
متن کاملComputational determination of character table and symmetry of fullerenes cage as C24 and C28
Fullerene chemistry is nowadays a well-established field of both theoretical and experimental investigations. This study considers the symmetry of small fullerenes cage C24 and C28. Using PM3 program for C24 and C28 fullerenes, Oh and Td symmetry were confirmed, respectively. The mentioned algorithm to compute the automorphism group of these fullerenes with connectivity and geometry of th...
متن کاملFullerenes and Carbon Nanotubes Fullerene
A fullerene is any molecule composed entirely of carbon, in the form of a hollow sphere, ellipsoid, or tube. Spherical fullerenes are also called buckyballs, and they resemble the balls used in Association Football. Cylindrical ones are called carbon nanotubes or buckytubes. Fullerenes are similar in structure to graphite, which is composed of stacked graphene sheets of linked hexagonal rings; ...
متن کاملMorphology Change and Structural Evaluation of Carbon Nanostructures
In this study, the change of porosity and roughness of carbon nanostructures, including fullerenes, carbon nanotubes and graphene was investigated according to oxidation process. The effect of oxidation was more sensible on smoother surface of nanostructures. Oxidation increases surface roughness of graphene up to 5.2% and porosity up to 35.2%. While, roughness of hummers graphene is 13....

Up to now, various empty carbon fullerenes with different magic number "n", such as C10, Cow Cm, Cso,Cis** Cm and so on. have been obtained. The calix[n]arenes are a class of chalice-like rnacrocyclicmolecules that have attracted widespread attention as complex molecules with liquid crystal behaviors. These classes of compounds are cyclic ohgomers synthessid by condensation of a para-alkylated p...
